  2. What is Community Youth Services? • Comprehensive organization dedicated to helping troubled youth • Can be used by families, schools, or individual youths (or some combination thereof) • Serves Thurston County, WA

  3. Examples of Programs • Safe Shelter: provides shelter, family reconciliation, crisis intervention to runaways • Readiness to Learn: assists young students who show signs of truancy • SETuP: helps foster youth in continuing education • There are 21 diverse programs in all

  4. Other examples of assistance include tutoring, job assistance, counseling, and scholarship funding.

  5. Why Do We Need CYS? • “… years of research suggest that at-risk youth and their families have multiple needs and interrelated problem behaviors that are not likely to be successfully addressed by single-response, stand-alone initiatives” (Morely & Rossman, 1997) • CYS has a program to fit most needs
