  3. History of the place and Region The population of Mexico City 1985 is 250,000 people. The previous Earthquakes in Mexico City 1985 is Michoacán Gap, Jalisco, and Guerrero. The geology of Mexico City 1985 is a magnitude of 8.1 at 7:17 an earthquake occurred off the Pacific coast of Mexico . The damage was concentrated in a 25 km2 area of Mexico City, 350 km from the epicenter. Of a population of 18 million, an estimated 10,000 people were killed, and 50,000 were injured.

Quake Facts • The earthquake happened in September 19, 1985. • Before it hit Mexico, it hit the Rio Balsas at 7:17 am and then hit Mexico City at 7:19 am. • The earthquake took more than five minutes and other parts of Mexico only took three minutes. • The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.5 which lasted thirteen seconds. • This earthquake had two epicenters in this occasion. • The depth of this earthquake was 28.0 kilometers.

  5. Aftermath: Part 1 • In this earthquake, there were 10,000 deaths in this event. • There were 3,124 people injured in this earthquake. • The damage made three and four billion USD in damage as 412 buildings collapse.

Aftermath: Part 2 • The main and most powerful shock occurred 19 September, followed by two aftershocks: one on 20 September 1985 of magnitude 7.5 and the fourth occurring seven months later on 30 April 1986 of magnitude 7.0. • The cause to this earthquake is the tension building up and letting go to make the 1985 earthquake happen.
