  1. What Is Plastic Surgery? The term Plastic Surgery takes its origin from the Greek word Plastikos, which means to form or mold. It has nothing to do with plastic material or to make a patient ‘plastic’! Plastic surgery is a special type of surgery that can change a person's appearance and ability to function. Plastic Surgery can be broadly divided into two categories, Reconstructive and Cosmetic. Reconstructive surgery includes treatment of burns, craniofacial surgery, hand and microsurgery, and also cancer and trauma reconstruction, including cleft lip and palate surgeries and surgical correction of pediatric and congenital deformities. Reconstructive surgery aims to reconstruct a part of the body or improve its functioning whereas cosmetic or aesthetic surgery aims at improving its appearance of it. Both of these techniques are used by plastic surgeons across the world. Cosmetic surgery is an elective or ‘cold’ surgery that is performed on normal parts of the body to improve a person's appearance and/or improve signs of ageing. The number of cosmetic procedures across the world has been increasing, especially over the past decade. The six augmentation, liposuction, breast abdominoplasty, and hair transplant. While most procedures are done for women, procedures for men, especially hair transplant and penile enlargement procedures as also rhinoplasty have been increasing.
