  1. Activity 2.7The Square of a Cube

  2. In your groups work on problem 1 (pg. 235) • What happens when you raise an exponent to another exponent? • Property of Exponents (Power to a Power) • If a is a real number and m and n are integers, then (an)m = (am)n = amn • Do problem 2 in your groups

  3. In your groups do problem 3 • What happens when you raise a product to a power? • Property of Exponents (Power of a Product) • If a and b are real numbers, and n is an integer, then (ab)n = anbn • Do problem 4 in your groups

  4. Fractional Exponents • What does equal as a base raised to an exponent? • The explanation is given in your book on page 237 • Do problem 6 in your groups • Once you have completed 6, go on to problem 7 and read the definition for a cube root

  5. In your groups work on problems 8 and 9 using your calculators • When doing problem 10 be sure to give explanations • If you are done early, complete problem 11

  6. Rational Exponents • What happens if we have an exponent that is a fraction where the numerator is not 1? • Ex. • Definition • In your groups work on problems 12 through 19
