    2. What is Active Listening?? Active listening involves giving verbal feedback Questioning or asking for additional information “What did you mean by. . . . .” Paraphrasing or repeating what the person said in your own words “What I hear you saying is. . . . . . .”

    3. Avoid Passive Listening When there is no verbal response to the person talking

    4. The Purpose of Active Listening To show the person that you are listening and understanding To let the person know that you understand the facts

    5. Other tips for Active listening Be patient Be aware of your emotions

    6. Active Listening Statements “If I understand you, this is what happened. . . . .”

    7. Active listening involves. . . . Open Ended Questions Open ended questions invite a thought out response – a detailed response

    8. Effective; Direct Feedback Is non-judgmental

    9. Now it’s time for an Active Listening Activity

    10. Final Thoughts If you are going to work with me, you have to listen to me. And you can’t listen with your ears. Because it will all go to your head too fast.
