What to do: ToFind an MSDS • Go online: • The online MSDS database (ChemFFX) can be used to find an MSDS for nearly any chemical • You can access ChemFFX from anywhere on campus by going here: http://bit.ly/UR-MSDS • For quick access, bookmark this link on all lab & office computers • Always read an MSDS before handling a chemical Read it, know it! • You can print a copy of the MSDS • You can email the MSDS to yourself, or someone else • You can save a copy of the MSDS on the computer (as a PDF file) • Search for a chemical: • Enter the chemical name or the CAS# • Choose the MSDS option you want from the buttons on the left of the screen: • Gold MSDS -most comprehensive • Vendor MSDS -provided by manufacturers • Mini MSDS -1-2 pages, available in multiple languages • Emergency (middle button) quick access to emergency info – Fire, First Aid, Spills, Information for the Doctor) • Click on the “search” button to perform the search • Tips & Tricks: • Searching by a CAS # is more accurate, because many chemicals have more than one name, but a CAS# is a unique number identifying that particular chemical and will find all synonyms • If you want to learn more about ChemFFX you can access the how-to manual here: http://bit.ly/chemwatch • HSE will also give you a hands-on tutorial if you want!
