  18. James Giacchetti – PresidentFirst Security Systems There is great value with the bullet points of Industry Affairs, involvement with the Illinois AFAA is just one of the associations that started in the last number of years that has and will continue to have a positive impact on the Industry in Illinois.  IL – AFAA in a nutshell: Valuable codes and standards discussions presented by industry pros, continued learning in an ever changing industry, and positive networking opportunities that fosters bus. growth. The one item that seems to have had the biggest impact in Illinois has been the IESA and there fight in Illinois to keep the assault of Gov. Municipalities from monopolizing though legislation Fire Alarm System monitoring and cut out those who monitor Fire Systems. While we here at First Security Systems only engage in monitoring to a small degree, and the impact would have little short term effect on us, the Idea that "Government" can take away your lively hood by legislation has been eye opening. For us staying close to the communications with the IESA and being informed on what was happening, and what we could do to help stop it is invaluable.  If "Government" gets a win in this regard anywhere in Illinois what will they take over by Legislation next?  First, fire monitoring then maybe test and inspection? Will they dictate what Fire Alarm product is allowed in their jurisdiction?

  19. Bob Yerger – PresidentBerkshire Systems Group, Inc. • Very Active with local AHJ's on Inspection, Testing and Maintenance procedures for Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems • Assisted Intertek–ETL (the other NRTL) on the design and procedures for a new and very exciting ITM (Inspection, Testing, Maintenance) Certificate Program that will greatly enhance an AHJ's ability to manage the installed base of Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems in their communities • This program would have a substantial positive financial impact on of Alarm Service Companies in those communities who adopt the program • Encouraged U.L. to conduct a round-table of AHJ's and Alarm Service Companies in the Eastern PA area • Roundtable Conducted by 3 U.L. Representatives including their President and General Manager of Certificating Services for U.S.A. and Canada • Attended by over 50 local AHJ’s and Alarm Service Companies • U.L.'s goal is to develop an auditing standard to be implemented nationwide

  20. Bob Yerger – PresidentBerkshire Systems Group, Inc. • Hosted a meeting of local AHJ's and Alarm Service Companies for a presentation of a new "Cloud-Based" Software System called the Compliance Engine developed by Brycer LLC out of the Chicago area • Implementation of this program by a community will dramatically improve the AHJ's effectiveness on managing the testing and impairments of fire alarm and sprinkler systems: • Implementation of any of these programs will provide a significant opportunity for Berkshire Systems Group to sell more service agreements for these systems • Presentation of ITM Certificate Program to the AFAA National Board at a meeting in July • Mission Summary: • "To improve the level of life safety in the communities we live and work in, to have Berkshire Systems Group recognized as a Leader in this area, and also an opportunity to profitably grow our business."

  21. Roger Bourgeois, SET, CFPS – PresidentBourgeois & Associates, Inc. Relationships Industry involvement has allowed me to participate at the National level in the Fire Protection Industry. Having been President of the Fire Suppression Systems Association (FSSA) and Chairman of the Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA). No other single Distributor has served at this level in two of the leading National Associations. This involvement has allowed a small company to be recognized at National Level.  Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) My 30+ years as a SFPE Member has allowed me to become a "Member for Life." My relationships with the leading Fire Protection Engineers in this country, i.e.; Wayne Moore, Dean Wilson, Ray Grill, Merton Bunker – just to name a few, are possible because of this involvement.  Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) – Having this designation in addition to NICET Level Four in Fire Alarm and Special Hazards has been an added benefit when dealing with local and State Fire Marshals.  American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE). ASSE now has a Fire Protection Section. Local Chapters are great for networking and professional speaking opportunities.

  22. Roger Bourgeois, SET, CFPS – PresidentBourgeois & Associates, Inc. Knowledge Industry involvement especially, at the National Level, allows both the Company and the Individual to be considered as a valuable resource for professional and technical information in dealing with existing customers, potential customers, and Authority Having Jurisdiction. While it is difficult to place an exact dollar value on professional presentations, this company has existed for 28 years, and has never had a Salesperson, other than the owner's involvement in industry affairs and professional speaking presentations. A professional corporate appearance (i.e.; including certificates with a bid proposal can often be the "Deciding Factor" when an end user evaluates a proposal.)  Industry involvement and "Professional Selling" removes a company from the very competitive "Bid Market" and allows the Fire Protection Company to be "written into specs", allowing negotiated, higher profit jobs.

  23. Roger Bourgeois, SET, CFPS – PresidentBourgeois & Associates, Inc. Advocacy Being involved in Industry Affairs allows any company to be included at early stages of code changes that affect all Fire Protection Companies. Influence the direction of our Industry. Typical example is of the local AFAA State Organization recognizing the State AFAA Person of the Year. Our State (Louisiana) had two State nominees recognized as the National "AFAA Person of the Year" - Needless to say, this allows you to have a "Direct Link" to your State Fire Marshal. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the "Lifetime Code Wienie Achievement Award," recognizing National Code leaders. Also brings recognition to a "Down South" Fire Protection Company not usually recognized by the "National Fire Protection Community." Halloween Fire Safety – Kids, especially girls, love to receive a Fireman's hat, Home Fire Safety Literature, and Candy (in the order listed) (See attached picture of Carolyn and our Grandson Lance on last Halloween night, the last day of National Fire Prevention Month). Let's make this a National Project for Fire Protection companies. I've not had much interest from NFPA promoting this concept.
