  3. A LiL Humor… • I am a teacher, but I am a parent first. • Just wanted to share a LiL Humor with you because I myself have been guilty of a few items you are about to hear. • Hope you Enjoy!!!

  4. Behavior ExpectationsB.A.R.K. B = BE AWARE A = ALWAYS BE RESPONSIBLE R = REMAIN RESPECTFUL K = KEEP HANDS, FEET, & OBJECTS TO YOURSELF

  5. Morning Meeting • Reinforces positive behavior • Begins each morning at 7:45 in the classroom • Helps foster family environment

  6. Class Dojo • Students are given positive points to kick off the day!  • Points are taken after given a warning in class. • Overall percentage determines student participation in grade level celebrations as well as PBIS Celebrations. (80% or higher) • Specials teachers are linked to each class

First Semester Focus Reading topics: • Asking and Answering Questions, Elements of fiction and Non-Fiction, Understanding theme, Analyzing a character’s traits, feelings, and motives, comparing and contrasting themes, motives, and plots of stories LANGUAGE ARTS/Writing Topics: • Parts of speech, subject/verb agreement, types of sentences, narrative and informational writing Math Topics: • Place Value, rounding numbers, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, word problems, and graphing • Science/S.S. topics: • Habitats, regions of Georgia, rocks and minerals • Map skills, branches of government

  17. Field Trips • All trips require SIGNED parent permission • CASH ONLY • Chaperones are welcome (background check approved)…except on Cubihatcha  • Parents cannot ride on the bus

  19. 3rd Grade is a DifficultGrade for Student Transition. Tips for Transition Independence & Responsibility is Essential in 3rd grade. Addition & Subtraction facts should be memorized. Multiplication facts to 12 should be memorized. Practice! Practice! Practice! Responsibility for students’ property and actions is key. Reading daily at their level is strongly recommended .

  21. Report Card • 3rd grade students will • receive number grades for academics • 90-100 = EX- Exemplary • 80-89% = PR- Proficient • 70-79% = AP-Approaching • 60-69% = LP- Limited Progress • 59%-0 = IP– Insufficient Progress • *50% is the lowest grade.

  22. Report Card • Report Cards include the following information: • Subject areas and domains: English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies • Music, PE, Art and Health • Work Habits • Attendance: Tardies and Absences • Behavior

  23. More on Grades… • Conduct and effort will be reflected in the weekly Friday Folder or Class Dojo • Midterm reports will be issued for all third grade students

  24. Homework Policy Complete homework in a timely manner • Students copy homework in their homework folder (please check these daily) • Completion of H.W. is strongly recommended as it is a daily review of skills being taught • Please encourage your child to take pride in his/her work.

  25. Assessment Types • Formative • Daily, ongoing assessments/observations that are used to monitor student progress toward mastery of standards. These assessments typically assess mastery of individual standards. • Summative • An assessment that is used at the end of a unit of study. These assessments generally assess student mastery of several standards.

B.Y.O.T. • It is IMPERATIVE that students bring their Chromebooks to school CHARGED each day • Appropriate use of technology is expected, students will miss out on pertinent skills if they aren’t able to access Chromebooks due to lack of battery. • Laptops are a privilege…not a right! • Teachers are NOT responsible for charging student laptops

How Else You Can Help • Practice Math facts (0-18) should be memorize by the end of second grade • Review all papers with your child when they bring it home. • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have high behavioral expectations at home, so it will carry throughout our daily instruction at school. Disruptive behaviors interrupt the entire teaching/learning process – not onlyfor the misbehaving student, but for ALL students in the classroom who are trying to get a quality education. • BE ON TIME! Your child will miss Valuable Information if tardy and will be at a disadvantage trying to catch up with the class. • Make sure your child does ALL their HW daily. • Give your child a quiet place to read for at least15 minutes daily. Record the books read on the Six Flags Reading Record.
