About NASCAR • NASCAR stands for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. • It was founded by Bill France  in 1947-48. • It all started in the hills of the south when moon shiners would try to outrun the police with their stock cars. • NASCAR races are broadcast in more than 150 countries and in 20 languages. • They used to race on dirt and on the beach. Now all tracks are asphalt and concrete. • NASCAR's headquarters are located in Daytona Beach, Florida, although it also maintains offices in four North Carolina cities: Charlotte Mooresville, Concord, and Canova. • Today the NASCAR Nextel Cup series features 36 races on 22 different racetracks.
