  2. Purpose The ASCWU Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) is established tooversee the distribution of legislative information to students, parents,and legislators at the local, state and federal levels.

  3. What OLA Does The voice in Olympia, and Washington, DC for CWU students Create political programs that increase political awareness on campus. Facilitate voter registration drives Empower students to become more civically minded.

  4. 2014-2017 Base Funding Request

  5. Annual Base Funding Request Summary An Annual Increase of $1,067! FY 14-17 Total Annual Base Funding Requested: 26,067 Civil Service Payroll: 0 Student Payroll: 13,075 Employee Benefits: 392 Goods &Services: 6,100 Travel: 6,500

  6. Recent Accomplishments

  7. CWU Lobby Day 2012 Central took a record of 50 students to Olympia to lobby our local legislators to maintain higher education funding.

  8. Washington DC Trip In 2011-2012 year, OLA took twelve students to Washington, DC to lobby on rising Stafford Student Loan rates

  9. Permanent Ballot Box CWU became the first university in the state to have a permanent ballot box on campus. This box was paid by students for students.

  10. CWU VOTE Program • This program is a partnership between OLA and the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement. • Register Educate Vote Theme • Because of this program, we were able to register 642 CWU students. Roughly 10% of the college population.

  11. Election Assistance Center OLA and CLCE sponsored an Election Assistance Center in SURC 137 A&B on November 5th and 6th of Election Day. This gave students an option to print and fill out their ballots so that they could vote on Election Day. This center was open in conjunction with our ballot box outside. CWU had a record of 1717 ballots dropped off in both areas. That is 20% of the college population.

  13. Election Night Bash A OLA and CLCE sponsored event on the night of elections. This was an event for students to celebrate the wins or feel bad for the losses of the night.

  14. Upcoming Projects and Events

  15. CWU Lobby Day 2013 • Lobby Day will be on President's Day, Monday, February 18th. • OLA's goal is take 100 students to Olympia to rally and lobby on the issues that matter to students. • Some important issues this year are possible repeal of GET program, differential tuition, veteran's issues, voter access, and taxes on textbooks.

  16. College Civics Week 2013 A program that is in its 8th year, sponsored by the Secretary of State's Office. Will collaborate with the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement to put on various programs that showcase students' work in civic engagement activities. Also plan to invite local legislators to come and talk with students on the issues that matter to them. Other ideas are an outdoor concert, trivia night, and voter registration drives.

  17. Institutionalizing Voter Registration on CWU Goal is provide access during Wildcat Welcome Weekend and Discover Orientations for freshman and transfer students to register to vote or change their address
