  1. Work Injury Compensation What is Work Injury Compensation ? • As an employee, you are covered under the Work Injury Compensation Act (WICA). • If you suffer an injury or disease due to work, you can claim work injury compensation from your employer or employer’s insurer. • You can claim even if • you no longer work for the company or your work pass was cancelled, and • regardless of who caused the accident/disease.

  2. Work Injury Compensation What can be claimed under WICA? • Medical Leave wages • Medical Expenses • Compensation for permanent incapacity (PI) or death (if any)

  3. Work Injury Compensation What can be claimed? • Medical Leave Wages • Wages while on MC or hospitalisation leave • Payable by the usual pay day

Work Injury Compensation What can be claimed? • Medical Expenses • Payable by employer, as long as treatment is considered necessary by doctors registered in Singapore • Compensation for permanent incapacity (PI) or death (if any) • PI compensation is applicable only if injury or illness has permanent ill effect on ability to work – this is determined by doctor • Lump sum payable to employee or next-of-kin (for death) • Subject to minimum and maximum limits

  5. Work Injury Compensation What to do if you are injured at work? • Seek medical treatment • Inform your employer / supervisor of your injury or illness as soon as possible. • If your employer does not know, he may dispute that your injury/illness is not due to work.

  6. Work Injury Compensation • Pass original MC to your employer to claim medical leave wages • Keep a photocopy for your own record. • Your employer is required to pay you by next pay day.
