  1. Independence Day My Holiday By: Zachary Jacobs

  2. When is it Celebrated? • Independence day is celebrated on July 4th of every year. • The colors for Independence day are those on the American flag of red, white and blue.

  3. Why do We Celebrate? • Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States of America commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We celebrate because it is America’s birthday the day that we were finally free from England.

  4. How Do We Celebrate? • By the early 1800s the traditions of parades, picnics, barbeques and fireworks were established as the way to celebrate America's birthday. Most towns and cities usually have big firework displays for all to see and enjoy.

  5. What Could we do in Class to Celebrate? • We could bake an apple pie, learn about flag etiquette or do a report on one of the people who signed the Declaration of Independence.
