  1. Kinder Corner September 2013 September at a Glance We will be sending newsletters and calendars home monthly. Please keep them in a safe place (ex. Fridge) and refer to them regularly. We promise that if information changes or new information arrives we will send home another letter if we need to. Agendas Communication is extremely important!! Please initial the agenda daily so that I know you received anything we sent home. Feel free to comment or state concerns in the agenda as well as I do check them daily  Personal and Social Responsibility The students will begin working on following classroom and school rules and routines this month. Please encourage your son/daughter to share this important knowledge with you. Our classroom is a “Tribes” classroom which is governed by 4 agreements. The first one is attentive listening, which will be our focus for this month. Students will create a learning community where all people are valued and celebrated. This safe learning environment is created by completing activities targeted at “getting to know one another”. The more we participate, the more we learn!!!! Numeracy: The students will begin exploring a variety of materials by categorizing them using sorting rules. Many sorting activities will be Explored. Literacy: We will begin by recognizing and writing our own names. Students will learn to use an Upper case letter to begin, followed by lower case letters. The alphabet will be explored through centers and print.   2. Kinder Corner September 2013 Our school’s occupational therapist will be coming in to visit the three kindergarten classrooms. They will be delivering a program targeting “good printing” skills. They will be in twice during the month of September. MARK YOUR CALENDARS Sept. 11-Early Dismissal Sept. 12-Terry Fox walk Sept. 14-15-Playground build Sept. 19-Meet the teacher BBQ/Playground opening @5:00 Sept. 20-No school Sept.25-Early Dismissal School Supplies Students will need to bring a backpack, two healthy snacks and a balanced lunch. Since there is no scheduled mid-afternoon recess, students will be allowed to sit and snack as they need to. Please label all of your child’s belongings (ex. coat, shoes, lunchkits). Library Students will bring home library book each week. We will place the library visit dates on the calendar as well as a reminder in your son/daughter’s agenda. Library books need to be returned the next visit in order to sign out new books. Food Allergies Our school is a PEANUT FREE zone!!! Please let me know if your son/daughter Have any other allergies that we need to be aware of  Homework Students will have a “letter of the week” activity sent home.
