Rise of Mansa Musa • 1300s – Height of Empire • Mansa Musa came to power in 1307 • Devout Muslim • Unbelievable wealth • Population may have reached 40 million • Hajj to Mecca • Showed off wealth • Had 60,000 followers • Brought back Middle Eastern education to Timbuktu Why could this have been bad?
