  2. The Challenge: “ Do you offer any extra credit?” PAS 319, Stuttering I, 70 students

  3. The assignment: An extra-credit writing project • Three to five pages • Two refereed journals as support • APA style • Rewrite as many times as desired for a maximum of 10 extra-credit points

  4. The response: 17 students , 43 drafts • Instructor approval of topic • Individual conferences or written response • Number of rewrites

  5. The advantages: The assignment… • improved grades of 6 students • 12 A, 4 B, 1 C as compared to 7 A, 9 B, 1 C without the assignment • helped to expand student’s knowledge of course material • showed students how write more effectively • gave students more personal contact with the instructor
