  3. Progressive Approach Discussion-based exercises are the first step in the progressive approach to exercises

  4. Types of Discussion Based Exercises • Seminar • Provide participants an overview of, authorities, strategies, plans, policies, procedures • Workshop • Similar to seminars • Participant interaction is increased • Focus on achieving or building a product

Types of Discussion Based Exercises • Tabletop Exercise (TTX) • Discussion of various issues regarding a hypothetical, simulated emergency • Used to: • enhance general awareness • validate plans and procedures • rehearse concepts • TTXs can range from basic to complex • Focus on identifying areas for improvement

Tabletop Exercise Documentation • Situation Manual • Core documentation that provides the background for a facilitated exercise • Supports the scenario narrative   • Serves as the primary reference material for ALL participants during conduct • Participant Feedback Form • Captures feedback on lessons learned and exercise design
