PURPOSE • Provide brief over of STAAR Alt • Define campus coordinator role • How to use TAMS (Texas Assessment Management System) • Review STAAR ALT timeline Manuals • Training Center User’s Guide for STAAR Alt District and Campus Coordinators • STAAR Alternate Manual for District and Campus Coordinators (coming mid-September) • Training Center User’s Guide for STAAR Alt for Test Administrators • STAAR Alternate Manual for Test Administrators (coming mid-September)

What’s New this year???? • No TAKS Alt… Only STAAR Alt • All 4 modules are mandatory for all teachers • Teachers must pass the modules a score ≥80% • Teachers have two chances to pass with ≥80% • STAAR Alt Administrator Training will be conducted by the SPED Department • STAAR Alt Supplemental Training will be conducted by the SPED Department

  4. STAAR–Alt Task Selection Although students with a cognitive disability can take any of the statewide assessments, STAAR–M or –Alt are the most likely options. Here are the differences between the two assessments. STAAR–M vs. • Students: • Receive modified • grade-level instruction • Perform grade-level • student expectations • Can take a one day • multiple-choice test • Students: • Receive instruction • that is linked to grade • level through • prerequisite skills • Require an observational • assessment

  5. Who can Administer STAAR-Alt • Teacher of record for the subject being assessed • Certified professionals vs. non certified professionals • Test administrator must have successfully completed all 4 training modules

Timeline • 8/29/11 Online modules 1-3 open • 9/22/11 STAAR Alt manual for DTC/CTC and teachers available on TEA website • 9/26/11 STAAR Alt spreadsheet is due from each campus • 10/3/11 Online module 4 open • 10/12/11 Testing coordinators can begin setting students up into groups • 12/9/11 All STAAR Alt test administrators must have successfully passed all four training modules. • 1/8/12 DTC unlocks all STAAR Alt test administrators • 1/9/12 STAAR Alt Test Administrators have access to the online assessment management system • 4/6/12 All documentation must complete and entered into the online system

CTC Responsibilities • Assigning students to their appropriate courses and teachers for testing in TAMS • Help teachers set up accounts in the Training Center. • Update student demographics in TAMS • Verify all STAAR Alt students are registered for STAAR Alt in TAMS • Monitor test administrators for completion of online modules by accessing the “STAAR Alternate At-A-Glance Training and Qualification Report” in the Training Center. • Provide general security training to STAAR Alt teachers • Once the testing window is open, monitor test administration progress by viewing online reports to check teacher progress and completion of STAAR Alternate assessment tasks in TAMS.

More CTC Responsibilities • Alert the district testing coordinator if students assigned to your campus are no longer being assessed with STAAR Alternate, are no longer assigned to your campus, if the enrolled grade level is incorrect, or have transferred to a new campus or district. • Collect “STAAR Alternate Documentation Form of Student Performance” records generated by test administrators and used to evaluate students must all be accounted for, turned in according to district procedures, and securely stored by the close of the assessment window. These are due to the CTC by 4/16/12.

Online Training Site • Go to the training site http://www.TexasAssessment.com/TexasTrainingCenter • Refer to pages in the STAAR ALT coordinator manual (pages 16-40) • Create an account (page 16) • Change your location if you came from a previous school • Verify all of your test administrators are certified in all 4 modules

  10. Online Management Site • www.TexasAssessment.com • DTC will enter new students and create campus coordinator accounts • Campus coordinators will create teacher accounts • Campus coordinators will assign students to the appropriate groups • Manage the campus completion reports

  12. Complete the information and then click, “Submit.” The DTC will be notified you are requesting access in the Training Center. For teachers and CTCs who have NEVER accessed the Training Center website, the code is staaralt1112. If teachers previously used this website for TAKS Alt and/or TELPAS, an account already exists for them, even if they were in a different district. They must use the same account. If they can’t remember their login information or password, they must contact Pearson.

  14. User Lookup Type in last name, first name Click the user’s name to review past training and qualification history.

  16. View Reports The Access Your Reports section of the My Home (Welcome) screen shows the available reports. Click the name of the report you wish to view.

  18. TAMS www.TexasAssessment.com All CTCs and test administrators will have their own login and password. You must not share usernames nor passwords.

  21. Collection of Documentation At the conclusion of testing, the CTC is responsible for the collection of the required documentation forms. These are secure documents and must be kept locked in secure storage until the conclusion of testing. These documentation forms must be typed by the testing administrator and returned to the district testing coordinator.
