  2. Background • Idea similar to “Amazing Race”, meant to generate student interest in international geography. • Interdisciplinary project intended to emphasize group collaboration and skill building throughout the duration of the experience.

  3. Approval of LocationsStep 1 • Geo Tour Approval Sheet (Decision on 6 locations) • Must go to each continent excluding Antarctica. No more than 3 man-made features

  4. Locations • Six locations must be approved before continuing. • Once approved, they cannot be changed. • Be sure to represent your route traveled on the back of your approval sheet.

  5. Required InformationStep 2 • For each location visited, you must have the following information. (rubric) - map of continent - specific map of country/area - detailed map/photos of site - background info - interesting/exciting facts - cultural facts (pick 3 of the 6)

  6. Itinerary - Plan of AttackStep 3 • Itinerary from place to place • Route traveled, time zones, flights • Direct vs. Connecting • Airport vs. Site visited • Minimum time on continent • Flying, driving, water travel • Begin Indianapolis International Airport, June 1st 2013

  7. Spreadsheet CriteriaStep 4 • Rubric = categories for spreadsheet • Details and formulas • Template and example • Recording information • Totals

  8. Presentation and StyleStep 5 • Final step of process • Utilize PowerPoint, iMovie, and video clips • Effective delivery is important - 8-14 minutes • Prepare and practice • Double check rubric • Geotour.wikispaces.com

  9. Citations • Introduction of Noodle Tools • Why do you cite? • What do you cite? • Three parenthetical citations • Relevant/Appropriate sources • Total citations

  10. “Top Dangers” • Time zones/Trip duration • Grade while presenting • Selection of groups vs. assigning • Time management • Presentation time, too long/short • “Buying the Grade”

  11. “Top Suggestions” • Practice, practice, practice! • Offer to grade spreadsheet drafts in advance • Volunteers and “Lottery selection” of presentation order in advance • Establish late penalty in advance
