  1. Political science is one of the sought after subjects in the humanities stream. This article deals with both aspects i.e., Preparation and Attempting the exam. This is simple logic. If you don’t prepare well and don’t get proper guidance, you will definitely not attempt well and ultimately not score well. How to prepare well? Below mentioned are the approaches which helps the students to score perfect in their exams: 1- Read to understand: First step is to read the chapter as much as the student can to understand what the chapter is all about. Understanding should be the first priority. 2- Try to connect the dots: Political Science is a very interesting subject. It deals with International Politics as well as National politics. One should be able to connect the events. For example: The cold war politics going on in the world should be connected with the national politics going on in India. This will enable better understanding and holistic learning. 3- Retain & Recall by Revisions (3Rs): After reading, the students have to recall the concepts which they have read. This will happen with timely revisions. Timely and multiple revisions will make the job easier and avoid last minute hassles during exam time.

  2. 4- Develop an approach for MCQs: With the revised pattern in place, one should prepare for the MCQs well. MCQs may seem easy to many, but actually they are not going to be so easy. One has to be very much prepared for facts and figures as well as conceptual clarity. (as there are going to be Assertion & Reasoning questions also) How to attempt well? Here are some tips or steps by which students can score perfect in class 11 & 12: 1- Prioritise questions: Students must read the question paper first because they get to know the questions which they know perfectly. And by attempting those questions firstly, it can boost up their confidence. 2- Precise answer: Students should write their answers in a precise manner without ‘beating around the bush’ as the examiner will be expecting relevant answers. Adhere to the word limit which is prescribed against each question. 3- Do not use short forms of words: As many use ‘coz ‘ instead of ‘because’; ‘wrt’ instead of ‘with respect to’nh, it will be a hassle when it comes to scoring marks. However, standard short forms like UN, EU, NATO etc can be used. But in doing that also, make sure you mention the full form of these standard short forms at least once (when being mentioned for the first time) in your entire answer script. 4- Infographics and diagrams: Try to draw diagrams, flowcharts and other forms of infographics in long questions or in 5 marks questions in order to score more.

  3. 5- Must attempt all the questions: Students must attempt all the questions in the exam as many students leave the questions as they don’t know the answer. But they must attempt as the examiner gives the marks for attempting. 6- Highlighting important points: Important points should be highlighted either by underlining them or by putting them in a box. This will make it eye catching for the examiner and will make his/her job easier. 7- Revision of answer sheet: Once the student is done with all the questions, he/ she must revise their answer sheet whether they have attempted all the questions or not. Also they must re check whether there is any error or not like spelling mistakes, missing words, etc. Students should focus on understanding rather than memorizing. They should relate to past cases, political events, and procedures. They should also keep an eye over the current events and be able to relate them with the contents of their syllabus. Remember one thing, only your score in examinations does not define your caliber. Your focus should be on educating yourself in a true sense. This can happen by learning and analysing (especially critically analysing) the concepts. Marks will ultimately follow. Good Luck.
