Better Environmentally Sound Transportation We strive to make our communities healthier places to live by promoting sustainable transportation; land-use planning and pedestrian, cycling and transit oriented neighbourhoods. • Our transportation choices programs include: • off ramp secondary school trip reduction program • Go Green Choices, workplaces trip reduction • Coordination of the Commuter Challenge • Beyond Planning TDM conference and listserv

  3. Program Development • Go Green public awareness campaign - 1990 • Employee Transportation Administrator Training Program • Regional Trip Reduction Service- 1997 • Go Green Choices • Jack Bell Foundation ridesharing service

  4. Current Activities • Go Green Choices currently works with 130 workplaces • Since 1997 we have trained 500 co-ordinators

  5. Current Activities Program includes: • one day training course for workplace co-ordinators • location assessments • ongoing support and advice • social marketing prompts • brochures, guidebooks, and postcards

  6. Further Developments • On Board pilot program - 2001/2002 • Goal: to determine opportunities to increase the use of sustainable transportation choices at the workplace. • More comprehensive support for pilot organizations

  7. Current Activities On Board Process includes: • Executive Interviews • Location Assessments • Employee Survey Pilot organizations: • IBM • Cambridge Ivanhoe • Ballard Fuel Systems

  9. Vancouver’s TMAs • BEST is currently involved with four TMAs • Willingdon Corridor Transportation Action Group • Metrotown TMA • ACCESS Post Secondary TMA • Cambie Corridor Consortium

  10. Case Study - VanCity Credit Union • Why has VanCity increased its sustainable commuting to 44%of its staff? • management involvement at CEO level • sustainability is part of their company mandate • dedicated staff-time to support the program

  12. Case Study - Vancouver International Airport Authority • Why is the airport authority interested? • Part of a larger environmental initiative to improve air quality
