YELL – Young Europeans Love Languages • Objectives of our network YELL: • to collect foreign language learning concepts (best practice) by using learning contents in other cultural, sport and entertainment activities offered for young and young adult people, making the process of learning enjoyable meaningful, for example: activities in sport clubs, social clubs in order to attract participation and increase motivation to learn foreign languages • to create a toolbox containing proposal of introducing language learning in other social, cultural and sport activities directed to young people • www.yell-project.eu Project number 143337-LLP-1-2008-1-DE-KA2-KA2NM Grant agreement number 2008-4283/001-001

  8. Examples of best practices • English for Art lovers • Languages: English • The participants meet at museums, art galleries and even in artists’ studios. This change of environment helps to support the learning process. Before each of these visits, the participants research the background of the relevant artist in class, as homework or on the Internet. Examples of best practices • Languages for sale – Multilingual Christmas Market • Languages: taught at school • Students are asked to bring objects to be sold on the last day of class and other students volunteer to sell the objects. The flea market is then conducted in the four languages that are taught at the centre (English, French, German and Italian), and each participant wears a badge indicating in which languages he or she can communicate. The event finishes with Christmas songs in the four languages. Examples of good practices • Developing Language and Cultural Awareness in the Spanish Primary Classroom through Active Learning and Intercultural Dialogue • Target language: Spanish • the task-based learning includes activities such as writing pen pal letters to schools in Spain, cooking meals from Spanish-speaking countries, drawing cultural maps, investigating interesting facts about languages and inviting guest speakers.   13. Examples of good practices • Double Club • Target language: English, German, French, Spanish • Resources based around football and Arsenal’s players to make language learning fun and relevant. The programme matches 45 minutes of language learning with 45 minutes of football – a real game of two halves! Examples of good practices • FunSongs Workshops • Target language: English • The FunSongs Show is a unique learning experience for young learners of English based on the FunSongs Approach recognized by the Italian, Latvian and Lithuanian Ministries of Education. Expert actors use comedy, original action songs and bilingual puppets (Latvian, Russian and English) to involve up to three classes of young learners in a joyful learning experience.
