  1. Central Florida Energy Efficiency Alliance (CFEEA)and Kilowatt CrackdownMembership Structure and Initial Update Plan Debbie Deland, President dcdeland@att.net * 407 234-6408 www.netimpactorlando.org

  2. CFEEAMembership • CFEEA Membership Limited To • CF Governments • CF Schools/Universities • CF Utilities • CF Professional, Trade, Business, and Community Associations • CF Businesses Are Not CFEEA Members • Participate on CFEEA: • Through an Association AND • By Taking CFEEA Challenges ‹#›

  3. CFEEA Membership Structure CFEEA Founding Members CFEEA Members Kilowatt Crackdown Challengers • Founding Members joined Alliance by 10/14 to form management team and are required to: • Attend all CFEEA management team meetings (<3 unexcused absences) • CFEEA Membership encouraged and open to all CF governments, schools, universities/colleges, utilities, professional, trade, business, and community associations • CFEEA Member when joining after 10/14/09 • All CFEEA members required to: • Commit their assets to action • Commit to a goal for each CFEEA Challenge • Add value to a CFEEA Committee Vote on CFEEA Membership Structure? 3

  4. Kilowatt Crackdown Success Importance • First Central Florida community-wide sustainability initiative • Has to be hugely, measurably, and visibly successful or sets back sustainability progress in CF • Immediate FIRST priority: • Get visible community buildings (and numbers) signed onto the Kilowatt Crackdown, e.g., • OSC, Burnham, Publix, OUC, Progress Energy, OUC, 5 of each government, school, university, and others to start to build numbers? • Can we each come up with a list of buildings/businesses that will spark others to take Kilowatt Crackdown Challenge? 4

  5. New CFEEA Members • Growing CFEEA Association Members • Second Priority, BUT still important • New professional, trade, business, and community associations: • Gets us out beyond like-minded people and groups • Involvement for more associations and their members give us: • More exposure and awareness • More feet on the street • Access to business leaders in their membership • Many have their own buildings—two birds with one stone • Can bring in more governments, schools, etc. 5

  6. New Non-Association CFEEA Members • Adding additional governments, schools, universities/colleges, and utilities as CFEEA members third priority for now. • Success with what we have will bring them in • The Alliance approach for these new members: • When opportunity presents itself • Always enable, encourage, welcome these new memberships • Important, perhaps mid-2010, to focus on these potential members so we deliver on true CF, community-wide Alliance and Challenge Impact and to broaden region’s collaboration 6

  7. CFEEA Membership Management • Orange County/ City of Orlando currently managing: • CFEEA Membership sign-up via Web site • CFEEA Member and Kilowatt Crackdown Challenger Communication and Follow-up by email (will assess value of ConstantContact) • Chairing Management Team Meetings • Communicating new members for committees • Managing receipt of ESPM profile and improvement verification 7

  8. Supporting Membership and Goal Results • To support new members and membership retention: • Need COMMITTEE CHAIRS to have regular schedule for their meetings, so we can post on CFEEA web site • Need COMMITTEE CHAIRS to report absences and/or lack of contribution, whichever is most relevant • Some may run into lack of time; priority representation shift of org. • Can replace by inviting post-10/14 members to join Management Team • Need committee meeting minutes to post to Web to know what is going on across the Alliance and for opportunities to promote the Alliance and Kilowatt Crackdown Challenge 8

  9. CFEEA Membership Committee Expectations • Update and support new member acquisition and retention plans • Provide CFEEA members with ‘stock presentations’ for CFEEA Membership and Kilowatt Crackdown Challengers: • Short launch – presentation for events, launches • Gov’t leaders/management (see Lori’s presentation on CFEEA site—Mayors Council Presentation) • School leaders/management; University/College leaders/management • Professional, trade, business and associations leaders/management; Community associations leaders/management • Associations Member presentation with: • Blank value slide to association and its members slide up front • Member rewards blank slide at end (have help for these) • Provide Kilowatt Crackdown ‘stock presentations’ for use with: • Business and building owner leaders; Facility Managers • Provide and coordinate volunteer support for the County and City (when required) for new member and member retention admin, ESPM verifications • Coordinate with Marketing Committee 9

  10. Questions for CFEEA Management Team • What do you need from Membership Committee? • How do we identify high visibility/impact buildings? • Each member submit a list? • Use OBJ Book of Lists? • Brainstorm? • How do we identify large CF buildings? • Utilities provide list by building/company name, address, and bill contact name of top 4000 single address bills that are standalone or within a larger account? • Property Appraisers/Property Tax Office provide list by building/company name, address, and bill contact name of top 4000 commercial properties by square footage or appraised value? (Does BOMA and IFMA want to control contact on their members? It would require a list of association members for CFEEA members to consult. Can BOMA and IFMA identify their members from the lists we get or create?) 10

  11. More Questions • Once we identify buildings (or not), how do we minimize multiple contacts to same business, building owners and managers? • Divide up? • Post on Web—Members Only and update alpha list of who (business and location) we have or are contacting: • Targeted, Interested, Committed, and for Online updated by OC EPD • How do we coordinate contact for CFEEA membership so we minimize multiple contact: • Divide up Key Sets of Organizations like Chambers, Rotaries, Elks, YMCAs…? • Post on Web—Members Only and updating alpha list like above or combined with above? 11

  12. CFEEA and Kilowatt Crackdown Membership Plan • Will develop a CFEEA Membership Plan that: • Includes our membership structure • Defines simple member acquisition process • Defines simple building acquisition process • Defines both CFEEA Member and Kilowatt Crackdown Challenger retention process, • Develop goal and committee assignment process • Define and provide membership and challenger tools for CFEEA members and the Alliance • Identify possible requirements for Marketing and PR and provide milestone results to Marketing and PR 12
