  3. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 Psalm of Jonah Jonah 1:17 “Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” (NKJV)

  4. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 Psalm of Jonah Jonah 2:1-3 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. He said: ‘In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. “I called on the Lord, and He answered me.” God still showed mercy to Jonah Hebrews 4:16“Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

  7. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 Jonah 2:3-6 You hurled me into the depths into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, “I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again towards your holy temple.” The engulfing waters threatened me, the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head. To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. Don’t neglect and don’t overlook the little things • God uses phases • Now Jonah’s in a fish

  8. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 Don’t neglect and don’t overlook the little things • God uses phases Jonah 2:7 “When my life was ebbing away, Iremembered you, Lord, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.” • Now Jonah’s in a fish • God is not the spare tyre of your life

  9. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 “Those who pay regard to false, useless, and worthless idols forsake their own [Source of] mercy and loving-kindness.” AMP God’s love = חסד[chêsêd] Jonah 2:8 “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.” • Lit: the pursuing love of God “Those who cling to worthless idols...” I know what God’s word says, but I don’t care “Those who cling to these idols forfeit the grace and the pursuing love of God.”

  10. Jonah’s Prayer Part Two - Jonah 2:1-10 “What I have vowed I will make good…” Jonah 2:9-10 “But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. I will say, Salvation comes from the Lord. And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.” “I can’t contribute anything; therefore salvation comes from the Lord.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
