  1. My Experiment Insert name here

  2. 1. Question • My question is, “which species of snail crawls the fastest?”

  3. 2. Research • I went to some websites and learned some stuff. • I first went to www.snails.com and read all about the different species. I learned that there are over 1,000 snail species in the world. The fastest ones are supposedly the Arcadian, the Phrygian, and the Locrian. • Next I went to www.Geography.com to find out if those three snails can be found where I live. I learned that all three of them live in the Southestern US, and so I might be able to find them here. • Finally, I went to www.WhatDoSnailsEat.com to find out what these snails eat, so that I could motivate them with food in the race. I learned that their favorite foods are swiss cheese and broccoli.

  4. 3. Hypothesis • I think that Locrian snails will be the fastest, with Arcadian snails being the second fastest. • (or, “If I race the three types of snails, then Locrian snails will be fastest….etc.”)

  5. 4. Experiment • 1. First I ……. <insert picture> • 2. Then ……. <insert picture> • 3. After that ……. <insert picture> • 4. And ……. <insert picture> • 5. Finally, ……. <insert picture> • (the “…..” above indicates a detailed description of each step)

  6. 5. Analysis • Description: after doing the race oncethree trials with a few snailsten snails of each type (30 snails total), I got some resultsaveraged the data together and found that Locrian snails were fastest averaged 71 seconds, Arcadian snails averaged 64 seconds, and Phrygian snails were the slowest averaged 98 seconds.

  7. Analysis cont.Data table:snail race times

  8. Analysis cont.Graph:Snail race times Time (in seconds)

  9. Conclusion: • According to my experiment, Arcadian snails were the fastest, with Locrian snails being a little bit slower an average of 7 seconds slower. Phrygian snails were significantly slower, trailing by an average of 27 seconds. • My hypothesis was incorrect.
