  1. Let’s look at some interesting facts about El Salvador

  2. Land and Population El Salvador is located in Central America, just southwest of Honduras, our country of focus last week. • Honduras

  3. Land and Population El Salvador is the smallest but the most densely populated country in Central America! Though ranked high for development, they still struggle with high rates of poverty, inequality, and crime.

  4. Land and Population • El Salvador is known as “The land of the Volcanos”. It has some of the most active volcanos in the world!!

  5. El Salvador’s Flag The blue stripes represent the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea; while the white stripe symbolizes peace. The coat of the arms shows a triangle which represents equality and the three branches of El Salvador's government. Inside the triangle are five volcanoes which symbolize the five former members of the federation.

  6. El Salvador gained its independence from Spain in 1821 after 3 whole centuries!!

  7. Economy • Coffee is considered an important pillar of the economy. Other things that contribute to El Salvador’s economy, you can see in the map to the right.

  8. Popular Tourist Attraction The Platano Forest has now been nominated as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Though deforestation is also a large problem in Honduras. El Salvador is famous for it's beautiful beaches and hosts the world surfing competitions.

  9. Other Facts • It is the only Central America Country with no Caribbean coastline. • El Salvador has used the U.S. dollar as its official currency since 2001. • El Salvador had an earthquake in 2001 at a magnitude of 7.6 that triggered a massive landslide that did a tremendous amount of damage.

  10. El Salvador Celebrations • Most festivals in El Salvador are religious in nature and take place in the summer.Independence day is one of the most important days for Salvadorians. Because that it is so important, every September 15ththere is a big celebration that takes places all around El Salvador, mostly with parades that last all day long!

  11. Celebrities from El Salvador Famous or well known people who were born in El Salvador mostly consists of political leaders, religious leaders, doctors, musicians, and actors.
