This course is interactive, which enables participants to bring the material to life and make it practical for day-to-day care provision. • The ADODCC course: • Provides a holistic, person-centered philosophy to understanding dementia. • Focuses on strategies to help with the activities of daily living;. • Aids caregivers and care providers in their efforts to maintain a person's identity, dignity, and self-esteem. • Is founded on the philosophy that quality care of persons with dementia involves an interdisciplinary team approach. Educationmakes aDifference • In 2008, the Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, Mount Saint Vincent University was contracted to assist the ADODCC Committee in revitalizing the Care Course. The revised course, released January 2009, further emphasizes person-centered care and the importance of team approach. The new content focuses on: • Working with families • Mental illness and dementia • Dementia and sexuality • Oral health • Falls prevention • P.I.E.C.E.S. and U-First! Wheel A Collaborative Care Tool • The ADODCC Committee will be holding a Facilitator’s Orientation Session on MAY 24, 2013 9:00 to 4:30. • If you are an ADODCC Facilitator, you will be required to attend the one day session for your re-certification. • If you are not an ADODCC Facilitator, but would like to become one, requirements include: • The successful completion the Alzheimer Disease and Other Dementia Care Course • Experience in a health related field • Experience in delivering adult education programs • Completion of a one-day Care Course facilitator orientation To register: Please forward the registration form by MAY 2, 2013 to: Cheryl Dunphy, ADODCC Administration 2 Dartmouth Road, Bedford, NS B4A 2K7 Phone: 832-8500, ext. 282 | Fax: 832-8505 Email: cheryl.dunphy@healthassociation.ns.ca Session Date: MAY 24, 2013 Location: Health Association Nova Scotia 2 Dartmouth Road, Bedford NS Meeting Room: Boardroom, 1st Floor Registration Fee:$75.00 + HST = $86.25 (lunch included) Payment required with registration.
