  1. Influence of Cadre on Georgia Green Yield and Seed Germination Eric P. Prostko and Tim L. Grey Department of Crop & Soil Sciences University of Georgia APRES 2005

  2. Cadre (imazapic) • BASF product • labeled for peanut in 1996 • postemergence • nutsedges • broadleaf • small grasses • very popular • 64% in GA • $13-18/A • rotation restrictions

  3. Peanut Varieties and Cadre

  4. Georgia Green in Georgia Source: UGA Peanut Production Surveys

  5. Peanut Stand Issues • TSWV • Florida MDR98 • DP-1 • GA-01R • Do herbicides influence seed germination?

  6. Objectives • Influence of Cadre on Georgia Green…… • Yield • Seed size • germination

  7. Materials and Methods • Small plot techniques (4 reps) • Planting date: May 13, 2004 • twin rows • Cadre @ 1.44 ozs/A + Agrioil @ 1% v/v • 8, 14, 22, 27, 34, 41, 47, 57 DAP • Weed-free conditions • Strongarm + Prowl • hand-weeded • 1000 lbs/A Gypsum on June 23, 2004

  8. Stages of Growth

  9. Seed Collection • 100 pods after digging but before combine • Stored at room temperature for 36 days • hand-shelled • weight of 100 seed • placed in cold storage (320F) for 18 days • germination test at 770F • Seed stored at room temperature (20 days) • Germination test at 680F

  10. Germination Tests • Growth chamber • Dark conditions • Two constant temperatures • 680 and 770 F • 2 runs • Petri dishes • 2 layers of filter paper • 10 seeds/dish • 10 mls of tap water • 7 days

  11. Results

  12. Georgia Green Yield Response to Cadre(1.44 ozs/A + Agrioil @ 1% v/v) P = 0.4515 CV = 11.21 PE-11-04 Attapulgus

  13. Influence of Cadre on Georgia Green Seed Size(1.44 ozs/A + Agrioil @ 1% v/v) P = 0.0921 CV = 3.81 PE-11-04 Attapulgus

  14. Influence of Cadre on Georgia Green Seed Germination (770F- 7 days)(1.44 ozs/A + Agrioil @ 1% v/v) PE-11-04 Attapulgus (average of 2 runs) 54 day old seed P = 0.08 CV = 5.68

  15. Influence of Cadre on Georgia Green Seed Germination (680F - 7 days)(1.44 ozs/A + Agrioil @ 1% v/v) PE-11-04 Attapulgus (average of 2 runs) 74 day old seed P = 0.1689 CV = 9.2

  16. Summary • Cadre had no effect on ….. • Yield • Seed size • seed germination

  17. 2005 Research • Cadre @ 1.44 ozs/A + COC @ 1% v/v • 30 and 45 DAP • 2,4-DB @ 1.1 pts/A + COC @ 1% v/v • 75 and 95 DAP • 3 peanut varieties • GA Green, C99-R, GA – 01R • 2 locations in Georgia • National Peanut Board Funding
