There are many new faces to our school this year and everyone is working together to ensure success for all students. Students are learning and applying our PBIS expectations throughout our halls and classrooms. They have made tremendous efforts to keep their voice volumes to a 2 in the cafeteria.  Every Friday, we are recognizing a few students from each class for being exceptional students who earn Hawk Pride Tickets. Our school report card has come out from the Department of Public Instruction. This year, we are in the meets expectations category, just barely missing the exceeds expectation label. The educators in our building work daily through collaboration, lesson planning, data review and differentiated instruction to provide your child with the best education possible. We are very thankful for the tremendous support of the parents and our STP. Through money earned last year from the Knowledge-a-thon and STP, we were able to complete the SMART board purchases so every classroom has a SMART board.  The final three SMART boards are due to arrive at the end of this month.  Dana Croatt, Ed. 2. Music Notes Kindergarten:  Our music room became a giant aquarium and the kindergartners were fish, seaweed, crabfish and even mermaids swimming in our aquarium to the piece of music called “The Aquarium” from “Carnival of the Animals.” 1st Grade:  1st graders are discovering the beat in music and can figure out  how many beats go by in a phrase of music. 2nd grade:  2nd graders used their ears to figure out the solfege (singing syllables and handsigns we use for melody) for an entire song. 3rd grade:  3rd graders are working on their playing technique on the xylophones by alternating their mallets. 4th grade:  4th graders began studying the instruments of the orchestra to prepare for their field trip to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 9th.  The theme for the Oct. 9th orchestra concert is “Colors of Wisconsin.”  Ask a 4th grader to sing our state song, “On Wisconsin!” 5th grade:  5th graders continue to make the music room their home – a place where they support each other, grow as learners and have fun.  They learned the Philip Philips’ song called “Home” and are identifying the musical form of many kinds of songs, including call and response form and ABA form.  Chorus:  Chorus began learning the songs they will sing for visitors when they take their field trip to the Mitchell Park Domes on December 18th.  STP NEWS STP is excited to present our annual Harvest Fest celebration on Friday, October 11th, 2013. Harvest Fest will be from 6:00 – 8:00pm. Once again, DJ By Request will be providing musical entertainment in the gym. We will also have crafts in the cafeteria, as well as the beloved cake walk in the step room! Food will be sold by the 5th grade class and the haunted candy hunt will return to its original spot in the library (extra fee associated with this event.) All attendees (students, siblings, and adults) must purchase a ticket. Tickets will be sold until Wednesday October 9th, for $2.00 each. You may purchase tickets at the door the night of the event for $2.50 per person after October 9th. Wristbands will be distributed at the door the night of the event and will not be sent home previous to the event. Please remember that all students must be accompanied by an adult, no exceptions! This event cannot run without volunteers! Please consider volunteering to run the jail, the cake walk, supervise the dance, take tickets, help students make crafts, set-up and clean up from Harvest Fest and much more. To have our cake walk we are also in need of baked goods. Baked items can be sent to school on October 11th, or brought to the event. All items should be packaged in servings of four in disposable materials. Also, start saving those nonperishable foods, as our annual food drive to help Greenfield families will be coming up in November.
