  1. Different Types of Domestic Violence Explained by Leo Mongillo

  2. Domestic violence is present in strange places. People believe that domestic abuse happens only in uneducated and financially poor households. According to The World Health Organization, one in every three women is a victim of abuse. Physical abuse is only one of the many kinds of abuse women face. Each type of abuse has its serious consequences. A victim of physical abuse may be in a more dangerous place, but other types of abuse end the victim’s will to live. The persona of a person changes while going through any abuse. It is proven that violence against women increases during an emergency. Countries saw a steep rise in domestic violence cases during the ongoing pandemic. People must be aware to recognize patterns of domestic abuse. According to Leo Mongillo the different types of domestic abuse are as follow:

  3. Controlling Behaviour: When the abuser practices dominance over the victim. The abuser and the victim try and justify this kind of behaviour. Controlling behaviour is often subtle and difficult to read. A few examples of controlling behaviour are monitoring phone calls, checking emails, having no freedom of choice, etc. Physical abuse: It is the physically aggressive behaviour of the abuser. It is when someone hurts a partner, a child, or a young person physically. It involves kicking, biting, slapping, etc. Physical abuse also means withholding physical needs like not providing food, not letting the victim sleep, etc. Sometimes physical abuse is holding the victim hostage and confined.

  4. Sexual Abuse: Consent is the foremost requirement for sex. Sexual abuse is sex without consent. Consent in the past does not account to consent in the present situation. Sexual abuse can be both verbal and physical. Sexual abuse includes laughing at someone’s physical appearance or passing rude comments, etc. Withholding sex from the victim is exercising control and sexual abuse. Emotional abuse: Emotional abuse breaks the person mentally. It is a behaviourthat wrongly uses the vulnerability or insecurity of another person to hurt them. Emotional abuse includes threatening, insulting, public humiliation, attacking a person’s self-esteem, etc.

  5. Isolation: It is another form of control. The abuser isolates the victim from the world. The victim is not allowed to meet friends or relatives. The victim usually plays with the love the victim might have for the abuser. The victim is left with nobody to look for help in the end. Sometimes the victim might self-isolate to avoid embarrassment in the presence of family and friends. Economic Abuse: The abuser forces the victim to become financially dependent. The abuser manipulates the economic resources of the victim. The victim has no access to any income. The abuser makes the victim purposely lose their job by making them miss work, making them late for work, etc. The abuser spends all the money on unnecessary items like alcohol, drugs, etc.

  6. Sometimes, the victim does not realize that they are a victim of domestic abuse. They ignore the signs thinking that it is normal. The abuser also becomes braver when the victim accepts the abuse. One kind of abuse leads to another. The victim can approach a family lawyer like Leonardo Mongillo to get out of an abusive relationship. The Mongillo lawfirm provides the clients with complete confidentiality.
