  2. The topic of child support is stressful for a parent. In the case of divorce or separation, the court might decide to direct a parent to pay child support. When the couple is recently separated, the parent might want to hire an attorney to ensure child support. There are times where one parent does not pay child support, the other parent has to seek the help of the court. In some cases, the parent receiving child support does not spend the money wisely; the court can direct the parent to spend the money wisely.

  3. The Different Details About Child Support are: Receiving Child Support: One should apply for child support after the custody of the child is decided. The parents can agree upon child support terms outside the court with the help of an attorney or a mediator. A court calculates child support orders in case of differences between the partners. To get child support, one should find out the demographic location of the other parent. Most of the time, a man voluntarily comes forward as a parent. In other cases, the court insists on establishing legal fatherhood or paternity with the help of a genetic test. The test is easy to take and accurate for establishing paternity. The court uses state guidelines to decide the amount of child support.

  4. Payment of Child Support: If a child stays with one parent, it is the duty of the other to pay child support. Even if the separated couple does not get along, they need to ensure that their child gets proper care. The payments help raise the child. If the parents do not agree on an amount, the court decides the amount of child support payment. Failing to pay the child support amount as directed by the court can have legal repercussions. It is vital that a parent follows the court’s directive and pays the amount on time.

  5. Modification of Child Support: The financial conditions of the separated partners may not always remain the same. The parents can approach the court for any modification in the amount. Either parent can ask for an increase or decrease in the child support amount. The original documents that were provided at the time of deciding the child support amount have to be produced in court, along with the proof of income.

  6. Modifications are ordered in the following cases: • If one loses their job • If one gets an additional job • If the incomes of either of the parents increase or decrease • Child custody or parenting changes • If one’s size of the family changes • If one person becomes disabled • If one is in jail for a crime After reviewing the changes in the income, the court can decide whether there is any change required in the child support amount.

  7. Enforcement of Child Support: The courts are very strict about the payment of child support. There are various tools available with which the court can penalize the non-paying parent.
