  2. Cerebral palsy is caused by injuries or abnormalities of the brain. Most of these problems occur as the baby grows in the womb, but they can happen at any time during the first 2 years of life, while the baby's brain is still developing. In some people with cerebral palsy, parts of the brain are injured due to low levels of oxygen in the area. It is not known why this occurs. Premature infants have a slightly higher risk of developing cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy may also occur during early infancy as a result of several conditions, including: -Bleeding in the brain -Brain infections -Head injury -Infections in the mother during pregnancy -Severe jaundice

  3. Preventive care for children would include safety seat belts in cars and wearing of helmets is made compulsory when riding a bike or skateboard. Any injury to the head can lead to cerebral palsy. If your child has jaundice at the time of birth then he or she should be treated with phototherapy. In this method of treatment, babies with jaundice are exposed to special blue lights, which help to break down bile pigments. This will ensure that there is no build up of bile pigments, which can cause brain damage resulting in cerebral palsy in your child. In severe cases of jaundice, blood transfusions are given.

  4. Quiz 1.) There are 6 types of cerebral palsy. 2.) Cerebral palsy is caused by injuries or abnormalities of the brain. 3.) Cerebral palsy can be prevented. 4.) Premature babies do not have a higher risk. 5.) Cerebral palsy is caused by severe jaundice.
