  2. Roots • Mexico • No jobs, low wages • Poverty, disease, malnutrition • Drugs, corruption, • Lack of education The USFG can give tax breaks/incentives, give humanitarian aid, give military or police assistance, etc.

  3. Advantages • Immigration BAD • The economy—jobs and taxes • Health—diseases and the burden on the health care system • Terrorism—ability of terrorists to get job • Drugs—fewer illegals leads to less drugs

  4. Advantages • Helping Mexico Good • Improved economy, health, environment, etc • Improved US/Mexico relations • Improved US hegemony • Energy—decreases US oil dependence and increase renewable energy • Culture—preserves Mexican culture • Trade—NAFTA

  5. Roots • The US • Easily forged papers • Employers who won’t or can’t follow the law • States that provide health care and education • Chain immigration • Visas run out The USFG could require contractors to enroll in employee verifcation programs, the IRS could fine employees who submit W-2 with bad SS #s, HLS could enforce the law using SS data, local law enforcement should begin arresting illegals, biometric IDs and data base, etc.

  7. Borders • The border are closed only in certain areas, mostly on the Mexican side • The USFG could use physical or virtual fences, aerial surveillance, increased border patrols, fill tunnels, increase the coast guard, etc.

Amnesty and Pro-Immigration plans • Allow all current residents who have been here a certain amount of time to stay as legal residents • Increase the guest worker program to coincides with certain season and increase the numbers, etc • Increase the number of legal migrants • Make renewal of visas easier
