Introduction • Could you imagine living in Whoville or walking through Jungle of Nool? • What would you do if a talking cat in a hat or fox wearing sox came up to you? • Would you eat green eggs in ham if offered to you by Sam I am? • These are just some examples of places and characters you can find in Dr. Seuss books.

  4. Questions? Who is telling the story in your book? Describe the characters in the book you read. What was the most important thing you learned in this book? What kind of feelings did the characters have and what clues were you given? Who inspired Dr. Seuss’s rhymes? What town does Dr. Seuss use as his inspiration for his drawings?

Mission/ Purpose • Identify the significance of a story. • Identify characters based on their importance (main v. supporting characters). • Work as a group to create a poster depicting the groups story. • To understand the meaning • and what is truly important • in these books. And how to • discover the significant • parts of other books.

Group Member Roles • Biographer- • In charge of researching • information about author. • Character Investigator- • In charge of researching • characters and analyzing their roles. • Lesson Evaluator- • Task is to identify the lesson of the story. • Design Coordinator- • Job is to find relative images and create a functional layout for the poster board.

Evaluation • Be able to tell the basic information of the book’s author to the class. • Be able to tell the class about the characters in the story. • Be able to tell the feelings and emotions of the characters in the story. • The poster has good images that depict the story. • Be able to tell a lesson you learned from the story. • Team work and participation.

Further Study • Movie Day with a discussion on the similarities and differences between the books and the movies. • Discussion on other books that have important characters and lessons. • Creative writing assignment where students write their own story. • Lesson on patterns and types of Rhymes. • Art lesson that allows students to create their own fun imaginary place.
