  3. How to Read Your Transcript

Official Transcripts – Order Process • All official transcripts must be ORDERED online • Go to Galena Website www.washoeschools.net/Galena • Look For Quick Links  ORDER TRANSCRIPTS/Student Records • Link takes you to WCSD Records/Scrib Order • Select Current Student (on left) • Create an Account (use Full, Legal Name). YOUR email, not parents. * • Under “Documents” Select (BLUE) ADD DELIVERY ADDRESS This is where you put in YOUR address (other) for your copy or YOUR COLLEGE (= Educational institution). It will fill in the address. • Green Box mark “College” and “Official HS Transcript. Initial, Sign. Select “Update Fees” – Fee will be listed, but you get 4 FREE ones. PAY.

Diploma Options • Standard Diploma 22.5 Credits: Meet the graduation requirement credits (include. 3 math, 2 science), TAKE ACT + Writing, TAKE all four EOC’s, pass Alg 1, Geometry, and English 3-4 • Advanced Diploma (Recommended Course of study + gpa) 24 Credits: All the above and 4 math and 3 science credits; GPA of 3.25 cumulative weighted. (Admission to UNR and Millennium Scholarship aligned) • Honors Diploma • 24 Credits, all of the above including 4 math, 3 science, 8 qualified honors/AP credits, 2 years of the same foreign language, no F’s in junior or senior year, and a cumulative, weighted gpa of 3.40 minimum. +STEM req. 4thyr Science

New Diplomas and Endorsements • College/Career Ready Diploma • Essentially ADVANCED Diploma (3.25, 4 math, 3 science), (or Honors Diploma) plus two credits of World Language or AP or Honors classes, plus one (or both) Endorsement: ENDORSEMENTS= • College Ready = ACT math 22, English 18 or SAT Math 530, Reading 480 (ACT for Juniors Feb 25) • Career Ready = CTE Completer (3 years + Exams) or ASVAB 50 + (we are giving this exam here OCT 17)

Seals to add to Diploma New WCSD “STEM” Seal and “STEAM” Seal • GPA 3.25 Unweighted or 3.85 Weighted GPA • 4 credits of Math • 1 credit of CTE or Computer Science • Test Scores: Science: 3 or higher on Science AP Exam or 23 in ACT Science or 650 SAT Sci Subject or B in Dual Credit science Math: 3 or higher on Math AP Exam or 22 in ACT Math or 530 on SAT Math or B in Dual credit Math • AND: STEM: 4 credits of science STEAM 3 credits of science + 1 credit of Fine Art

  8. Biliteracy Seal Seniors must APPLY for Biliteracy Seal A few requirements for Seal: 1. Must be a Senior (or junior early grad) 2. Must have at least 2.0 unweightedgpa in English 1-7 3. Must take ACT Exam (Feb 25, 2020) 4. Must have already earned a “3” or higher on AP Language Exam or must score I-4 or higher in all 4 sections of AAPPL (or “4” on IB or “IH” on OPI) **WE WILL GIVE THE AAPPL AT GALENA IN FALL 2019. TALK TO Mrs. Tillotson, room 102. You can test in many different languages on AAPPL exam!

Non degree programs / certificates: Welding Health Sciences Automotive Tech Web Design Entrepreneur Auto ASE Tech Paramedic Drafting Computer Tech Radiography Culinary Arts Bookkeeping Fire Science Dental Assistant HVAC Diesel Service Tech Graphic Arts/Design Hospitality and Apprenticeships in:Tourism Electrician, Plumber, Tile Setter, Ironworker, Sheet metal, and more!

Applying to College…Steps • Research colleges and universities and apply online Scholarships from the colleges provide most $ **Common App. • Send your ACT/SAT Test Scores from the ACT/SAT websites Usually costs - $13.00 each time • Send your Official Transcripts via school website, Quick Links Costs $ each time • Letters of Recommendation (not always required) Teachers who know you well, coach, employer, volunteer supervisor Give a RESUME’ so they can refer to specific accomplishments • Essays when required **Show you are: Confident, capable, open to new experiences… • Free Application for Federal Student Aide Start application OCTOBER 1st

  11. University of NevadaAdmissions – 3 ways to get in 1. CORE GPA of 3.0, weighted, includes best 3 math, best 3 science, 4 English, and 3 social studies. or 2. Test Scores ACT score of 22 composite or SAT score of 1120(reading + math only) or 3. Advanced Diploma * = 3.25 cumulative weighted gpa (24 credits, 4 math, 3 sci) *Not admitted until Diploma awarded = June!

Plan/Hope to play sports in College?REGISTER WITH THE NCAA ELIGIBILITY CENTER ONLINE NOW DIVISION I • 16 Core Courses • 4 years of English. • 3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher). • 2 years of natural/physical science (1 yr of lab if offered by high school). • 1 year of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical science. • 2 years of social science. • 4 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language or comparative religion/philosophy). Have your ACT/SAT scores send by ACT/SAT and send Official transcript via school website Quick Links

  13. PSAT and ACT • OCT 16 is PSAT • This is PRACTICE SAT. Sophomores in WCSD took it last year. • Take again (pay bookkeeper $17 to sign up by Sept 13th ) • This test is used for National Merit Qualifying Exam – Juniors only. • LAST opportunity… occasionally a SCHOLARSHIP will ask for PSAT score • FEB 25, 2020 – ACT + Writing Exam • This is a GRADUATION requirement. • Test given DURING school. • This is the ONLY free ACT we give students – Junior year only.

ACT / SAT for the college bound SIGN UP ONLINE NOW to get location and date desired Registration deadline is 5 weeks before the test ACT = www.actstudent.org/start SAT = www.sat.org or www.collegeboard.org • When to TAKE the tests? JUNIORS = SPRING usually • SAT = Best time frame: May 2 or June 6, 2020 • ACT = Best RETEST: June 13, 2020 Should I re-take my ACT and/or SAT? Or take BOTH? • Depends on your college • Could mean more scholarship money • Students can improve their test scores. STUDY!!!

  15. Not sure what to pursue for career or college major? • Go online and google “What is the right career for me?” • Take Interest Inventories online to explore • TAKE THE ASVAB Great Career Interest test conducted by the military • See Mrs. Applebach in the Galena Library Career Center

  16. What is the ASVAB, why take it? Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Your skills + Your interests = career fields/majors to research This is a great test to figure out what career fields fit your interests and abilities! There are two parts: 1. the “skills test” October 17 2. the results + Interest Inventory November Good news: It’s free! Sign up in the Counseling Dept. You do miss classes for this. Possible Bad news: Military recruiters will contact you about your results and encourage you to join. GREAT ON-THE-JOB TRAINING & MONEY FOR COLLEGE THOUGH!

REMINDERS • Sign and TURN IN your Junior Year Status Sheet NOW • KEEP your transcript; okay to make copies and use • KEEP YOUR GRADES UP! • Talk to your teachers • Set up a schedule for success Get Involved!
