  2. Why do we care? • Credited with introducing the sonnet to England • Wyatt's professed object was to experiment with the English tongue,tociviliseit,to raise its powers to those of its neighbours

Was he a playa? • Rumored affair with Anne Boleyn (Lizzie’s Momma) • Imprisonment on charges of adultery • While he was imprisoned in the tower of London, he probably witnessed her execution, along with 5 other guys she was supposed to have committed adultery with…(was SHE a playa…?) • Probably only released because of his friendship with Cromwell

  4. Court Life • Was often in and out of favor with the court • Much of his poetry focuses on this bestowal or removal of favor

  5. Thomas Wyatt the Younger • Only descendent of the Elder • Led a rebellion against Mary, Queen of Scots • Failed and executed. Very Epic Fail…
