Student Expectations • Abide by the Pickens County School System’s Code of Conduct • Follow all JMS rules as outlined in your agenda • Come to every class on time with all necessary materials (agenda, notebooks, textbooks, homework, pencils, pencils, pencils, etc.) • Treat yourself, others, and school property with respect

  7. 6th Grade Supply List • Get a copy from your child’s homeroom teacher – one list for the entire grade level. • Only one pencil pouch with the listed supplies will be needed.

  8. Afternoon Dismissal BUS ROUTES are posted on the wall in front of the main office. Please see the transportation representative in the cafeteria with concerns. Buses load in the back parking lot at approximately3:25. Car riders are released in the front parking lot at approximately 3:25.

  9. Transportation Change Beginning with the 2013 – 2014 school year, students riding any Pickens County School System bus will not be allowed to ride any bus other than their regularly assigned bus for a.m. pick up and p.m. drop off.

  10. Breakfast / Lunch • Breakfast – $1.25 • Reduced $0.30 • Lunch – $2.00 • Reduced $0.40 Students will pay for breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria. Sign up for Meal Pay Plus for free . . . – view your child’s cafeteria balance and purchases made online at http://www.mealpayplus.com

Morning Drop Off • Drop off time is no earlier than 7:20 a.m. in the front parking lot/ students should not be dropped off prior to this time. • Students report to their designated area in either the cafeteria or the gym. • At the 8:00 a.m. bell, students are to report to READING / CARES / CLUBS or STUDY HALL. • Students should bring a school-appropriate book or magazine for READING time.

  12. AGENDA USE • The agenda is your child’s hall pass and should be with them at all times. • The school provides the first copy at no cost – future copies must be purchased at a small cost. PLEASE check your child’s agenda nightly for homework assignments / teacher notes / important dates / etc.

  14. Important Notes #1 • Rolling backpacks, trapper-keepers, and zippered binders will not properly fit in the lockers and cannot be kept inside the classroom. • Backpacks / book bags / totes of any size are not allowed inside the classroom due to limited space.

  15. Important Notes #2 • Mechanical pencils will run out of lead in the middle of class; therefore, standard #2 pencils are the best choice. • ALL medications (prescription or over-the-counter) should not be sent to school with a child. • Adults are to hand-deliver all medications to the nurse.

  16. Important Notes #3 • Sign up for ParentPortal in order to view grades / missing assignments in all classes. See Mrs. Carol Stancil in the cafeteria for information. • Visit our school website for important information - www.jaspermiddleschool.org

  17. Important Notes #4 • When absent from school, all students should bring an excuse for the main office upon returning. • Each time a student is checked out of school early, a photo ID is required from the adult.

  18. Important Notes #5 • Microwaves are provided for student use during lunch. • Refrigerators are not available.

  19. Field Trip The 6th grade field trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee is tentatively scheduled for May, 2014.

  20. Make-up Work Policy(per the Pickens County Student Code of Conduct) Following an excused absence, a student will have three school days to request make-up assignments from teachers. Teachers will have three school days to provide the make-up assignments. Teachers may initiate the make-up assignments and may also give alternative assignments. Failure to satisfactorily complete make-up assignments within ten school days of the absence will result in a grade of zero for those assignments. Students who have been assigned out of school suspension are not eligible to make up any assignments. Any assignments missed during OSS will result in a grade of zero.

  21. Pickens County Board PolicyHOMEWORK All students are required to complete homework assignments. Homework is any assignment made by a teacher for completion outside of regular class time that enables students to practice, prepare for, and/or elaborate on what they are learning. Teachers of academic subjects are expected to assign homework on most school nights and are required to give feedback to students on all homework assignments.
