Name: Dr. Alexey Lipatov Title: Inverse Opal Department: Chemistry E-mail: alipatov2@unl.edu This image shows three-dimensional photonic crystals based on bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3), a promising multiferroic material. The foreground shows a 3D model of a photonic crystal. The background shows a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photograph of the actual sample. The two images were combined and processed using Adobe Photoshop. The related work was recently published in Journal of Materials Chemistry, DOI: 10.1039/C3TC30335G.
