  1. ISO 50001 based Energy Management System for Jordanian Water Sector • Arab Water Week • Dead Sea - Jordan • 04.03.2019 • Subtitle • Venue, City - Country • Date

  2. Water Sectors’ Energy policy & strategy 1- Reduce the specific energy consumption (kWh/m3) in the water sector by 15% by 2025 2- Increase the share of renewable energy to 10% of the overall power supply The energy efficiency and renewable energy policy 2016 for the water sector has set the target to: Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  3. Electrical consumption – Jordanian Water Sector The water sector is Jordan’s largest single consumer of electricity, accounting for 15% of all consumption, and the percentage is increasing. 161 million JD Percentage will raise even higher with the new electricity tariff (64%) Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  4. Projects Electrical consumption – Jordanian Water Sector increased head losses • Positive measurable impact • High energy savings • Improved practices & technologies • Transfer of knowhow's Pumping head & distance excessive supply pressure poor pump station design Leakages poor installation and maintenance • Unknown contribution to targets • Scattered projects • Site specific • Based on available data • No sense of contribution to energy • Could have higher impact Water/ waste treatment inefficient management and operation strategies low pump efficiency Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  5. Missing is… Database with Water Energy Balances (WEB) Adequate information: EE opportunities, solutions, costs and benefits Technical designs and engineering standards Aggregated targets and action plans Awareness Divided responsibilities for design, energy procurement and operation efficiency Integrate EE measures to day-to-day work Authorized entity responsible for planning & coordination Monitoring & Evaluation Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  6. Put the pieces together.. ISO 50001 based Energy Management System Ensures integration of stakeholders & sustainability Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  7. EnMS scope MWI Minister Ministry Secretary General JVA Secretary General WAJ Secretary General Energy Unit WAJ Managed Governorates Myahuna Aqaba Water Company Yarmouk water company Balqa Amman Aqaba Irbid Karak Zarqa Ajloun Electricity distribution companies Tafeleh Madaba Jerash EDCO Maan Mafraq IDECO JEPCO Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  8. Energy Management System EnMS approach for the Water Sector Example: YWC Al koura Wadi Alarab Pumping station 1 Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  9. Approach Energy Efficiency in Water Sector (IEE)

  10. A tailored energy management system in the water sector is in place and promotes energy efficiency among all actors across the water sector The project is commissioned by BMZ and is being implemented within the water sector energy strategy Increasing Energy Efficiency in the Water Sector (IEE)
