    2. Activate Prior Knowledge What have we learned about friendship in our previous stories? While you read the story look to see if there are any questions from the Concept Question board that this story may answer.

    3. Background Information What is like meeting new people on the first day of school? How does it feel? How do you choose someone to be your friend? What qualities make a good friend?

    4. Genre: Realistic Fiction Made up story about something that could really happen

    5. Vocabulary COAXED Gently talked someone into doing something that he or she wasn’t sure about doing The girl coaxed her friend into playing the game.

    6. ENEMY A person who is hurtful or unfriendly on purpose The girl was not my friend; she was my enemy.

    7. NUDGED Pushed someone a little to get his or her attention. The curly haired girl nudged Priscilla to get her attention.

    8. ORDINARY Plain, not fancy; the usual or regular kind She led Priscilla to an ordinary desk with a flat top in the very back row of the classroom.

    9. SELFISH Thinking only of oneself, not of others. The girl was being selfish and not sharing any of the cookies.
