What career will it lead to? • Do you need a specific degree for a specific career? • Open days – attend subject specific talks • How is the course assessed • Sandwich courses/placements • Can you take part of the degree abroad? Which University? • You can apply to five universities • Look at entry requirements – is it a realistic choice? • Entry is based on grades or UCAS points A* or Distinction* = 140 A or Distinction = 120 B or Merit = 100 C or Pass = 80 D = 60 E = 40 • Therefore a university could ask for 3 X B’S or 300 UCAS (this could either be 3 X B. Questions to ask at Open days • Ask students there about the course/university/city • How many classes are taught a week • What careers do graduates go on to? • Is the course accredited to a professional body • How long does it take to travel between facilities? School Reference • 47 lines • Written by your subject teachers and tutor, then checked by UCAS Coordinator • Each subject teacher has already written a short academic written paragraph to your reference, they will write about your academic performance and personal characteristics. • Form Tutors will write about your attendance and punctuality, contributions within school and out of school and your hobbies. • This week – w/c 23 June – Tutor time • Every reference checked and amend where necessary • Your reference will include predicted grades!
