  1. Spaying & Neutering- A Part of Pet Desexing Desexing is a known procedure for pets which is also known as spaying, neutering, and fixing. All these procedures do the same thing of stopping animals from being sexually productive. Pet owners who do not want their pets to make more puppies or kittens chose these procedures for their pets. It is one of the most important lifestyle tips and advice for pet owners. After these surgeries, females can not get pregnant and males can not impregnate their partners. Difference between spaying and neutering Surgery that is performed on female dogs and cats for desexing is called spaying. In this procedure the vets remove female reproductive parts like ovaries and uterus. This major surgery includes hospitalization and the use of anesthesia. Neutering or castration is the desexing process for male dogs and cats. Vets remove the testicles of dogs and cats to stop producing sperms and testosterone hormones. This procedure is less complicated than Spaying but the use of anesthesia is still mandatory. Both the surgeries come under standard procedures and usually do not show any risks. However, the risk of infection is there if the wound is not getting proper care. The right time to desex a dog or cat Most dogs and cats breed are sexually matured by the age of 6 months. They can be desexed at the age of 8 months. It is good to desex the pets to stop unplanned puppies and kittens because most of them end up in a shelter. Pets owners also abandon the newborns of their pets if they do not want them. It is better to desex your pet than to throw their puppies on the streets.

  2. Treatments required after surgery After the desexing surgery it is important to keep the pet quiet for a few days. Complete rest is important to recover which means no exercise for them. Stop them from jumping or fighting with others. You need to wait for stitched to be removed, until then no bathing. Also, buy an Elizabethan collar so your pet does not lick or bite the stitches. It is recommended to visit the vet again after 7 to 10 days for checkup and stitches removal. Benefits ● The most important benefit is control over the dog and cat population by reducing unwanted pregnancy. ● Stop bleeding because of periods in female pets. ● The reduced risk of uterus infection. ● The reduced risk of the ovary and breast cancer. ●It controls the male pet’s territorial behavior and aggression. ● It also reduces the risk of testicular cancer in male dogs and cats. Cost of desexing Undoubtedly, desexing is a costly procedure. However, It is difficult to tell the exact amount as it depends on the sex and age of the pet. Spaying is a more complex procedure than neutering. The cost of the surgery will also depend on the weight of your pet as the vet will be able to determine the amount of anesthesia. Summary Spaying and neutering is an important procedure for pets. It is recommended to all the pet owners when they want their pets to stop breeding. Most shelters and rescue organizations also follow this procedure on their animals so the shelters do not get overwhelmed.
