Dissociative Disorders • Dissociative Disorder: A persons sense of self has become separated from his memories, thoughts, and/or feelings usually in response to stress. • Amnesia, Fugue, and Identity disorders are three forms of dissociative disorders. • Amnesia: Loss of memory in reaction to a traumatic event • Fugue: Loss of identity and travel to a new location • Identity: Two or more distinct personalities

Schizophrenic Disorder • Schizophrenia is made up of several disorders characterized by disorganized and delusional thinking, disturbed perceptions, and inappropriate emotions and behaviors. • Delusions • Delusions of grandeur, persecution, sin/guilt, influence • Hallucinations • Auditory, Visual, and Tactile • Inappropriate Emotions/Behaviors • Irrational display of emotions and/or behaviors that potential lead to withdrawal from the world

Schizophrenic Disorder • Types • Paranoid: delusions of grandeur & persecution • Catatonic: variations in involuntary movement • Disorganized: bizarre behavior • Undifferentiated: disturbed but not clearly one of the 3 above • Causes • Biological: Genetics, brain structure and function, prenatal viruses • Psychological Factors: Stress
