NSF- Sponsored and Industry Member-Funded Center • $30K annual membership • 15+ Member companies (5+ each for SMU/UTD/UNT) • Matching funds from NSF • Leverage additional funding from NSF and other government agencies • Each industry member has a representation on the IAB • IAB selects projects performed by the Center • Well-established, simple and proven membership and IP agreements • Current/past NSF IUCRCs: Success stories and statistics

North Texas and Other University Members SMU (Tian/El-Rewini/Nair + Huang/Kocan) received NSF planning grant - supportletters from Raytheon, LM, Countrywide, T-System, Nokia, Dell, Sirific UTD and UNT also received coordinated NSF planning grants • Collectively involve more than 20 faculty members and 75 graduate students directly working on related research projects. • 2000 undergraduate and 1200 graduate students in Computer Science , Computer/Software/Security/Systems Engineering degree programs • Proven experience with industry and government funded research Other Potential University Members UT- ArlingtonSouthern Illinois University Stony Brook UC-Irvine Arizona State University UT-San Antonio

NCSC Research Focus Areas • High quality net-centric systems • high survivability, reliability, security and safety • high performance and usability • low cost and maintenance Project examples • Rapid system development, analysis, and verification (all) • Opportunity-based reliability and safety improvement (Tian, Huang) • Self-configuring wireless sensors and networks (El-Rewini, UNT/UTD) • Security & safety of net-centric healthcare delivery infrastructure (Nair, Huang) • System vulnerabilities analysis, detection, and prevention (Kocan, Nair, Tian)

Timeline Industrial membership commitments by July 31, 2008 Dues can be paid within the year of agreement Request NSF Recognition by August 31, 2008 Formal proposal with industry member commitment letters Kick-Off IAB meeting in Fall 2008 Approve governance structure and select projects to fund
