  1. Trend Analysis

  2. Pastels • Those who like their fashion be subtle and soothing will be thrilled to know that pastels are in next season. Pastels were first spotted at Burberry, where candy shades were toughened by contrasting silhouettes and sheer fabrics, and at Peter Pilotto show where pretty, pale hues were used into the designer’s signature prints. • Softer hues also appeared in Christopher Kane’s botanically inspired spring/summer 2014 collection, which was sprinkled with hints of pistachio and lilac. Alice Temperley offered a more old-style take on the trend, showing princess like evening dresses in shades of pink and lilac. • In Milan, Donatella Versace embraced pastels for Versace’s collection, refining the house’s characteristic glamour with shades of pale colour. Marco Zanini kept things pastel and interesting for his latest collection for Rochas, offering lavish buttercup yellow jacquard coats and intricately embroidered dresses. • MiuMiu provided a characteristically unique take on the trend, showing a 1970s twist on pastels in the form of its exquisitely tailored outfits and taking the look to another level by skilfully colour-blocking the soft shades.

  3. Sheer or peek-a boo • Sheer and transparent fabrics, possibly the most seductive trends for next season. They are very popular choices with designers including JW Anderson, Meadham Kirchhoff, and Mulberry, using light-as-air fabrics that are perfect for hot summer days. Light and loose dense trousers, tops and dresses from Emma Hill for her latest season at Mulberry. • Stella McCartney also embraced this trend into her collection, presenting exquisitely delicate dresses with lace and silk, the sheer detailing at the hem adding a beautiful appeal. • Sheer fabrics have a very feminine and floaty feeling leaving very little to imagination which is perfect for spring summer.

  4. Metallic • Spring-summer is the time for glamour and shine according to many designers at Paris Fashion Week. A focus on metallics can easily look tacky , but shine was made luxury with rich brocades, lavish embelsihments and gorgeous gold embroidery. At Lanvin, AlberElbaz focused on bold metallic fabrics with a sportswear filled outing. • Inspired by science-fiction, Gareth Pugh showed his trademark sleek silhouettes and high necklines for his spring-summer collection. A colour palette of white, black and grey also included silver metallics for an alien edge. • Rich and warm metallic from gold to bronze were seen on several catwalks.
