Objectives Within target sectors, to support: • implementation of infrastructure projects (creation, extension, modernisation, etc.) • reinforcement of infrastructures management and related services through identification and support to implementation of partnership agreements between: • EU (or third countries)entrepreneurs • and African operators

Which types of partnerships ? • Examples of eligible partnerships: • Financial agreements (stake in existing company, JV, …) • PPP, « management contracts », etc. • Supply of equipments, joint with know-how transfer • Technology transfers • Engineering, services, consultancy • Technical assistance, notably through training etc.

Approach to prepare Investment Conferences Deliberately « Business oriented» approach • Sectoral survey for EA and African countries, in order to identify the most promising sub-sectors and the networks / operators to target by priority • Identification – through « networking » - the efficient African enterprises, within targeted sectors • Identification, selection and structuring “viable” projects with their management • Promotion of these projects to EU (and third countries) entrepreneurs, notably during two regional Investment Conferences (February 2006 and mid-2006)

Participants to Investment Conferences 300 to 400 participants – 3 days duration • From Africa • Key institutional actors in the target sectors • Main African entrepreneurs (public, semi-public and private) • Promoters of “validated” projects • Intermediate organisations (professional organisations, networks of entrepreneurs, investment promotions agencies, etc.), Banks, etc. • From EU (and third countries) • professional organisations • large firms and SMEs operating in the 3 sectors • bilateral and multilateral cooperation agencies • International Financial Institutions (WB, EIB, AfDB, etc.) investment funds, venture capital • International high level keynote / sectoral experts

Interest of Investment Conferences Conferences organised according to two themes: • Investment conferences Thematic conferences with high level keynote speakers, highlighting • key trends at sectoral / regional / national levels • projects, • regulatory environment, etc. • Business meetings • Opportunity for high level meetings • Organisation of face-to-face meetings between promoters of validated projects and EU entrepreneurs • Opportunity of a further EU support

Further EU support After the Investment Conferences, to support, through a tailored technical assistance, the projects’ implementation: • additional market survey • additional technical studies • complete feasibility study and business plan • « bankable »dossier • support to obtain financing • technical assistance to speed-up project implementation • training (management and / or staff), etc.
