  2. Lesson 28 – Lame Man Healed 3:1-11 • Peter & John go to the temple to pray v. 1 • Similar activity as mentioned in 2:42, 46 • A man lame from birth is also there…his daily “routine” was to beg alms v. 2 • He asks Peter & John for money v. 3

  3. Lesson 28 – Lame Man Healed 3:1-11 • An important point re: “benevolence” • Money collected from the saints was for them, not all the poor in Jerusalem • Money was “managed” by the apostles 4:35 • Peter gave him something far more “valuable” than money…he healed him vv. 4-6a

  4. Lesson 28 – Lame Man Healed 3:1-11 • Peter commanded him “in the name of Jesus Christ” to stand & walk vv. 6b-8 • His legs & ankles instantly received strength • He walked, leapt about praising God • The people were amazed, “filled with wonder” at what they saw vv. 9-10

  7. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • The God of those fathers had “glorified” Jesus vv. 13b-15 • Again, he indicts them for delivering Him up • He also reminds them of how they “pressured” Pilate cp. Lk 23:4-5, 13-25 • He reminds them of their demand for Barabbas

  8. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • The God of those fathers had “glorified” Jesus vv. 13b-15 • Again, he mentions their murder of Jesus • Again, he mentions God raising Him up • Again, he mentions the apostles are witnesses

  9. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • It was “faith” in the name of Jesus that had healed the lame man v. 16 • Not the lame man’s faith cp. vv. 5, 7 • It must have been a reference to the faith of Peter himself cp. Lk 9:37-41 Mt 17:14-21

  10. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • Notice a very observable “shift” in the words & tones from vv. 13-16 to v. 17 • Peter’s strong accusations, defense of Christ • Peter’s acceptance of their actions as done in “ignorance” • Did Peter see a change in their countenance??

  11. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • Peter admits what they did to Christ was “done in ignorance…” v. 17 • However, their “ignorance” factored into God’s providential plan re: Christ v. 18 • Christ’s sufferings at their hands had been announced beforehand by the prophets

  12. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • Neither did their “ignorance” excuse them from complying with God’s will v. 19a • They still had to “repent” cp. 2:38 • They had to “return” (turn, be converted) • Their “repentance” would bring about 3 blessings from God vv. 19b-21a

  13. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • Their “repentance” would bring about 3 blessings from God vv. 19b-21a • Sins would be “blotted out”, “wiped away” Acts 22:16 Rev 7:14 • “Times of refreshing” from the Lord [removal of guilt]Heb 9:13-14 1 Pet 3:21

  14. Lesson 28 – 2nd Sermon 3:12-26 • Their “repentance” would bring about 3 blessings from God vv. 19b-21a • Jesus would eventually be sent from heaven Jn 14:2-3 1 Thess 4:13-18 2 Thess 1:6-11 • The coming of Christ has been prophetically announced “beforehand” v. 21b
