  1. Tryouts and forming teams

  2. Tryouts • Post dates/ times/ locations on: • Club website • Facebook page • State tryout page • www.tryoutcentral.com or similar site • Send out email to company database • Create tryout registration form • Update coach bio page on website and teams to be coached • Schedule for spare coaches to be available to help run the tryouts for the largest groups

  3. Forming teams • Multiple teams in each age group • No cuts • Homogeneous teams - Most practices will consist of 1 v.1’s so teams need to be composed of kids of similar ability • Coaches stay with group for entire year • Teams of similar ability can practice together • Unique philosophy – kids play equal playing time, multiple positions

  4. Materials to hand out at tryouts • Legends brochure • Registration form • Breakdown of fees for year • Reasons to join the Legends • Administrative/ clerical help at tryouts: • Directing parents and kids to fields • Handing out materials • Collecting registration forms and fees

  5. Appointing a manager • Believes in the philosophy • Attends most practices and games • Reliable • Organized • Good communication skills • Thorough • Has free time to dedicate to the team

  6. Player registration • Club registration form and annual fee submitted to Legends office • Register with state (www.ksysa.org) or US Club Soccer (www.usclubsoccer.org) – manager does this • Official state rosters created

  7. Registration forms • After tryouts each new and existing player needs to submit the following to the team manager: • Registration form • Annual fee ($100) • First payment ($89.50) • Uniform sizes – order through Soccer Master • Spirit wear orders – through Legends office • State/ US Club Soccer registration form • Picture for player card • Notarized medical waiver

  8. Ordering Uniforms • Contact Andrew Clifton

  9. Payments • Coaching fees are due by 15th of the month • All payments must come in together – one check or set of checks • Payment must accompany a spreadsheet with the coach’s name, age group, month of payment, team members and payment amount • Bookkeeper will email spreadsheet at start of year once roster is set • Coach to help out if manager struggles to collect payment • Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the fees

  10. Manager responsibilities • Collect monthly dues and submit to Legends office • Communicate with team regarding practices, games, tournaments • Uniform/ spirit wear orders • Register players and team with state organization/ US Club Soccer • Register for tournaments/ league play

  11. Tournament and league sign ups • Manager signs team up for event • Divide cost between players (all players including those who are unable to attend tournament) • Parents pay manager/ team bank account • Manager pays hosting organization (This money should not go through your books, if it does it is subject to the 10% royalty fee)

  12. Paying coaches • All coaches are 1099 employees/ contractors • Pay your coaches on a per player per month basis • Coaches have the incentive to grow their teams • Kansas City payment example: • $82/month • KC Legends coaches are paid $35 - $48 per player per month depending: • Experience • Time with club • Qualifications • Scholarships – coaches are paid the same % as with full paying players • E.g. $48 of $82 is 58.5%

  13. Season Structure • Here is the structure we use in KC as an example: • 2 practices per week – 75 minutes long • 2 tournaments per outdoor season • Fall: Outdoor league + 2 tournaments • Winter 1: Indoor league • Winter 2: Indoor league + tournament • Spring: Outdoor league + 2 tournaments • Summer: Practices only

  14. Questions? • For questions pertaining to forming Legends teams please contact • Kyle Hogge, Legends Executive Director • 816-868-7062 • kyle@kclegendssoccer.com • www.kclegends.com
