  1. Chemical Storage February 21, 2012 University Chemical Hygiene Plan 2010 p. 43-44

  2. Separate By Hazard • Acids • Segregate from reactive metals • Keep oxidizing acids (such as HNO3, HClO4, HClO3, H2CrO4, H2SO4) separated from organic acids • HNO3and HCl may be stored in the same cabinet but in separate trays • Segregate from chemicals that could generate toxic or flammable gases upon contact, such as NaCN, FeS and CaC2

  3. Separate By Hazard • Bases • Segregate from metals, organic peroxides and acids • Do not store aqueous KOH or NaOH in aluminum drip trays • Flammable Liquids • Segregate from oxidizing acids and oxidizers • Keep away from ignition sources • Cyanides • Segregate from aqueous solutions, acids, oxidizers

  4. Separate By Hazard • Pyrophoric substances • Before opening, store in a cool dry place, closed tightly • Once opened, store under inert atmosphere • Light-sensitive chemicals • Store in amber bottles in a cool, dry, dark place • Peroxide formers • Store in flammable-storage cabinets
