  5. Reduce • Buy and Use Less!!!! • Purchase packaging that can be recycled • Water from the faucet is just as healthy as bottled • Carry out items from store and do not use bags • Buy in Bulk!!!! • No junk mail!! • Start a garden

  6. ReUse • Reuse materials=Use them more than once • Wash and reuse plastic cups and plates • Donate • Yard sales • Washable items

  7. Recycle • Don’t just toss everything in the trash • Recyclable Items • Aluminum cans • Cardboard • Electronic equipment • Glass • Magazines • Metal • Newspaper • Paper • Plastic bags • Plastic bottles • Steel cans • Writing/copy paper • Yard waste (leaves, grass)

  8. Cooperative Learning Activity • Number off by threes • Move to your group • Read about the assigned topic: reduce, reuse, or recycle • Take notes on the items listed on the next slide

  9. Take notes on these topics . . . • Define your topic • List three strategies to reduce, reuse, or recycle • What are two “hints for parents?” • What would be your first step to begin to reduce, reuse, or recycle?

  10. Peer Teaching . . . • Reconfigure into new groups • Teach your new group members about your topic

  12. Real World Collaboration: • Return to your original groups • Brainstorm ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle on the school campus • Select 5 ways to put words into action • Plan the first 2 steps to implement the 3 “RE”s
