MHA’s advisory to all States • Review and amend building byelaws • In Municipal areas, all building plans to be submitted by architects and certified by a structural engineer (who will be responsible for code compliance) • Evaluate seismic safety of existing life-line buildings and initialize retrofitting process • Mandate for retrofitting of private hospitals, office and shopping complexes • Carry out awareness generation campaigns

Activities • Selection of N.R.Is • Finalise curriculum for T.o.T (6 wk and 2 wk) • Selection of S.R.Is & faculty • Training Calendar • Training of SRIs • Establishment of Hazard safety cells • Training & certification of serving/practicing engineers • Consultancy services to state for Building byelaws review • Consultancy services to state for vulnerability assessment and retrofitting

Outcomes • Capacity building of state resource institutes • 420 faculty of SRIs/Govt nominees trained in seismic safe constructions • Establishment of Hazard Safety Cells • Framework for compulsory certification of practicing engineers • 10,000 practicing engineers trained • Appropriate Techno-legal regime in place in all States/UTs • Consultancy services for vulnerability assessment and retrofitting of lifeline buildings in all States/UTs.
